Nightlife

Early evening in Bali is quiet because the nightlife starts late at nearly midnight. At the stroke of 12, night spots and in-places in Bali will throb with excitement, music and serious partying. Tourists who plan on a night out to town shouldn’t plan too early. Hanging around Kuta and Sanur, you can chance upon fellow travelers and locals out for fun in bars, clubs, karaoke joints, discos and nightclubs.

Kuta is hailed as party central. It refers to that area stretching about seven kilometers north of the first Kuta village. This area now consists of Seminyak, Basangkasa, and Legian. Al fresco pubs and discos line the streets here. There is usually no bar entrance fee. Drink promos and happy hours are observed, sometimes even extended. Jalan Padma and Jalan Legian are most packed with watering holes.

Tubes Café is the place to join surfers for a few rounds of beer and pool and watch videos. Bounty Restaurant is an eye-catcher for its unique sail ship form and the fact that dancing goes on ‘til dawn. Other cool places to frequent: Goa 201 Pub Restaurant, Gado Gado and 66Club (double six), The Maccaroni Club, Zero Six,

Meanwhile, the Sanur area has a wealth of fine restaurants and international hotels featuring the famous Balinese dance. In Jalan Pantai Sidhu, the Rumours Nightclub draws in the biggest dance crowd. The sophisticated Bali Janger disco in Jalan Danau is a favorite among the yuppies and tourists in Denpasar. On the other hand, Puri Mango Guest House is perfect for fans of live reggae music. Other night spots in the area include Jalan By-Pass 9X, Trophy Pub, and the Borneo Pub.

Nighttime leisure in Ubud is more on the cultural side. Balinese dances are performed every night in various places. The Beggar's Bush Pub in Ubud boasts of four levels enclosed by a stunning view of the community. Some of the notable bistros there are Casa Luna, Ubud Restaurant, Bamboo Restaurant and Yogyakarta Café.
